SSU supports Syrian communities through governance, economic recovery, education, healthcare, peacebuilding, women’s empowerment, and civic engagement—delivering sustainable, evidence-based programs in partnership with local institutions.

Governance & Community Development

We strengthen local councils and community structures to enhance legitimacy, transparency, and service delivery—improving trust between institutions and citizens.

Key Objectives

  • Build capacity of local councils to manage services and finances.
  • Promote community participation and accountability mechanisms.
  • Support evidence-based planning and policy processes.

Economic Empowerment & Livelihoods

Economic recovery underpins stability. We enable market-aligned skills, entrepreneurship, and dignified work—especially for youth, women, and IDPs.

Key Objectives

  • Deliver vocational training linked to local demand.
  • Provide micro-grants and MSME support to create jobs.
  • Foster market linkages and value-chain participation.

Education & Capacity Building

We stabilize education by supporting schools, teachers, and learners— improving access, quality, and learning environments.

Key Objectives

  • Rehabilitate schools and provide materials, furniture, and heating.
  • Fund salaries and training for teachers and admins.
  • Expand remedial and non-formal education access.

Healthcare & Social Services

We equip and establish health facilities, ambulances, and mobile services to extend essential care—complemented by mental-health and referral support.

  • Establish/rehabilitate primary health centers and camp clinics.
  • Provide equipment, ambulances, and medical supplies.
  • Strengthen staff capacity and community health outreach.

Peacebuilding & Coexistence

Through dialogue, mediation, and research, we reduce tensions and foster social cohesion among diverse communities.

  • Run media initiatives that support peace narratives.

Women’s Empowerment & Gender Equality

We advance women’s political, social, and economic participation through training, advocacy, and community engagement.

Public Services: Water, Waste, Bakeries

We rehabilitate core services to improve daily life and bolster council legitimacy: water systems, waste management, rubble removal, and affordable bread.

Key Objectives

  • Rehabilitate pumping stations; install water meters for sustainability.
  • Provide equipment, containers, and O&M for waste/rubble removal.
  • Operate automated bakeries with councils to ensure food security.

Media Protection & Professionalization

We convene media actors and authorities to define rights/duties, improve coordination, and protect journalists through standards and training.

Key Objectives

  • Workshops on safety, ethics, coordination, and legal awareness.
  • Protocols with local councils, police, and CSOs.
  • Professional development to reduce risks and violations.
