Specialized Training Workshops in Amman Support Syrian Women’s Participation in Parliament

“Rased Syria – Stability Support Unit,” in cooperation with the National Democratic Institute and the Folke Bernadotte Academy, launched a series of specialized training workshops that lasted five days in the Jordanian capital, Amman, under the patronage of the Higher Committee for the Elections of the People’s Assembly.

The workshops target a group of Syrian women legislators, with the participation of several female members of the Jordanian Parliament, alongside a distinguished group of legal experts, specialists, and professionals in legislative and political affairs. The initiative aims to support Syrian women’s participation in public life and strengthen their presence in legislative institutions.

The workshops focus on exchanging expertise and knowledge through direct sessions and meetings among participants, contributing to the development of parliamentary and legislative skills and enhancing dialogue on issues related to women’s role in political work.

The workshops covered several key topics, including legislation and political representation, the role of women in legislative authorities, confidence-building and strengthening public image and political leadership, institutional power and coalition-building in parliamentary work, advocacy and enhancing cooperation between legislative councils and civil society, as well as discussing constitutional and legislative priorities for Syrian women.

Monther Al-Sallal, Executive Director of the Stability Support Unit, told “Syria 24” that these workshops are part of efforts to strengthen the presence of Syrian women within legislative and political institutions and enhance their effective participation in decision-making. He noted that the program aims to provide a space for dialogue and the exchange of experiences among participants while benefiting from Arab parliamentary experiences.

Al-Sallal added that the workshops seek to develop participants’ leadership and legislative skills, enabling them to play a more influential role in the coming phase. He stressed the importance of building sustainable partnerships and cooperation between Syrian women parliamentarians, civil society organizations, and regional legislative bodies.

He also affirmed that these activities come within joint efforts aimed at enhancing the capacities of Syrian women in the legislative and political fields and supporting their participation in building a more inclusive and just future.

These workshops come amid anticipation for the first session of the new Syrian People’s Assembly, following the completion of elections in Al-Hasakah Governorate and President Ahmed al-Sharaa issuing a decision to appoint 70 members to the council, in a move considered a step toward completing the legislative authority’s structure during the current phase.
