Damascus Hosts the First Dialogue Session Between the People's Assembly and Civil Society to Discuss Legislative Priorities

On Saturday, the Syria Observer Program, an initiative of the Stabilization Support Unit (SSU), organized the first dialogue session of its kind in Damascus following the commencement of duties by the newly elected members of the Syrian People's Assembly.

The session brought together members of the Syrian People's Assembly:

- Mr. Basel Heilem
- Mr. Nader Sanoufi
- Mr. Mustafa Saqr
- Mr. Fadi Al-Halabi
- Ms. May Khlouf
- Mr. Adnan Al-Khatib

They were joined by representatives of civil society organizations, legal experts, and activists to discuss legislative priorities for the coming period, support the legislative reform process, and strengthen communication between the People's Assembly and society.

The discussion focused on several key priorities, including:

- Empowering all segments of society and reintegrating groups affected by the years of conflict.
- Adopting legislation that promotes investment and stimulates economic growth.
- Addressing transitional justice and institutional reform.
- Responding to community needs and advancing Syria's legislative framework.

The session also featured an open discussion on the most urgent laws that could pave the way for broader legislative reforms and contribute to strengthening social stability.

In addition, participants reviewed a draft report prepared by the Syria Observer Program on monitoring the electoral process, emphasizing the importance of maintaining direct dialogue between parliamentarians and citizens to ensure that legislation reflects the perspectives of both sides and enhances public participation.

The Syria Observer Program is a national initiative launched by the Stabilization Support Unit (SSU) to promote transparency, accountability, and civic participation in Syrian public affairs. The program monitors electoral processes, organizes dialogue sessions on legislative, constitutional, and public service priorities, and implements training programs to empower women and youth while promoting their participation in public life and peacebuilding.
